Diocese of St. Augustine

A capable communications office with more coming in than any team could get ahead of. We brought the speed, the resources, the insight and the technology it needed to stop reacting and start leading.

New initiatives, at least quarterly

The situation

The communications office was capable, but the volume of incoming work kept it in response mode, with little room left to set a direction.

What we did

Worked alongside the office as a strategic advisor. Brought added speed and resources, gave an outside view of how the work moved, and developed the technology to carry the load: a custom intranet, new websites, and a magazine site now in development.

What happened

The team went from operating almost entirely in response mode to launching new initiatives at least every quarter.

01  /  The challenge

A capable communications team, kept in reaction.

Nothing about the people was the problem. The office could do the work. The volume just never let it get ahead: work came in, work went out, and the week was spent responding.

In that state, a new campaign is just one more thing arriving on the pile.

02  /  The approach

More speed, more hands, and the tools to carry the load.

We did not start with campaigns. Working alongside the office as a strategic advisor, we brought what a busy team rarely has room for: extra speed and resources to take work off its plate, and an outside view of how the work actually moved, which gave the team insight into where its time was going.

Then we developed the technology to keep it moving. A custom intranet put requests, assets and the team’s own work in one place, legible to everyone. Each website we built after it followed the same rule: easier for the office to keep current, not just better looking.

The change wasn’t a heavier workload.

03  /  The outcome

From reactive to a quarterly cadence.

With room to plan, the team started leading: a rebrand of the Mission and Shrine website, support for multicultural initiatives, and a new site for the diocesan magazine, now in development.

The office went from operating almost entirely in response mode to proactively launching new initiatives on at least a quarterly cadence.
