This privacy policy explains what data Column 13 collects when you visit column13.com, subscribe to our newsletter, fill out a form, or otherwise interact with us — and what we do with that data. We’ve tried to write it in plain English. If anything is unclear, email [email protected] and we’ll explain.
Who we are
Column 13 is a marketing publication and practice based in Jacksonville, Florida, operated by Column 13 LLC. When this policy says “we” or “us,” that’s us. When it says “you,” that’s the person visiting our site or sharing information with us.
What we collect
Information you give us directly
- Newsletter signups: your email address, and a timestamp of when you subscribed.
- “Let’s Talk” form: your name, email address, phone number, company website, industry, and anything you write in the message field.
- Direct outreach: if you email or call us, we keep that correspondence.
Information collected automatically
- Server logs: your IP address, browser type, referring URL, pages viewed, and timestamps. Our hosting provider and Cloudflare (our CDN) keep these for standard operational and security purposes.
- Analytics: we use Google Analytics 4 to understand which articles get read, which pages get traffic, and where readers come from. GA4 sets cookies and collects anonymized usage data, subject to your consent.
- Advertising and remarketing pixels: we use Meta Pixel (Facebook/Instagram Ads), LinkedIn Insight Tag, and Google Ads conversion tags. These set cookies and collect data about pages viewed, subject to your consent. We may add additional advertising or customer-experience tracking tools over time; new ones will be disclosed here.
- Form attribution data: when you submit a form, we may also capture the URL parameters and referring source that brought you to the site, so we know which channels are working.
How we use it
- To send you the newsletter you subscribed to.
- To respond to inquiries you send via the contact form, email, or phone.
- To run and improve our marketing — figuring out which essays land, which channels drive subscribers, which campaigns are working.
- To prevent fraud, abuse, and spam.
- To comply with legal obligations.
Who we share it with
We don’t sell your data. We do share it with service providers that help us run the publication and the practice:
- Klaviyo — email marketing platform; processes newsletter subscribers. Klaviyo privacy policy.
- HubSpot (if/when configured) — sales CRM; processes “Let’s Talk” leads and sales follow-ups. HubSpot privacy policy.
- Gravity Forms — form software running on our site; processes form submissions before they reach Klaviyo or HubSpot.
- Google — Google Analytics 4 for usage analytics, Google Tag Manager for tag deployment, Google Ads for advertising. Google privacy policy.
- Meta — Meta Pixel and Conversions API for Facebook and Instagram advertising. Meta privacy policy.
- LinkedIn — Insight Tag for advertising and conversion tracking. LinkedIn privacy policy.
- Cloudflare — CDN and DNS provider; processes IPs and request data for security and performance. Cloudflare privacy policy.
- Our hosting provider — WordPress hosting that stores the website’s data.
We may also disclose your information if required by law, subpoena, or to protect the safety of users or the public.
Cookies and tracking
We use cookies and similar technologies for analytics, advertising, and to remember your preferences. Cookies fall into three categories:
- Functional cookies — required for the site to work (login state, form submissions, security tokens). These can’t be disabled.
- Analytics cookies — help us understand site usage (Google Analytics 4). Optional.
- Marketing cookies — used for advertising and remarketing (Meta, LinkedIn, Google Ads). Optional.
You can manage your cookie preferences via the consent banner when you first visit, or by clicking the “Cookie settings” link in the footer at any time. Analytics and marketing cookies will not be set until you consent.
Your rights
If you’re in the EU, EEA, or UK (GDPR)
Under the GDPR, you have the right to:

- Correct inaccurate data.
- Request deletion of your data (“right to be forgotten”).
- Restrict or object to certain processing.
- Receive your data in a portable format.
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Our legal bases for processing are: consent (newsletter subscriptions, marketing cookies), legitimate interest (analytics, security, improving the publication), and contract (responding to your inquiries).

Under California law, you have the right to:
- Know what personal information we’ve collected about you and why.
- Request deletion of personal information we hold.
- Correct inaccurate personal information.
- Opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of your personal information (we don’t sell, but the use of advertising pixels may qualify as “sharing” under CPRA — you can opt out at any time via the cookie banner).
- Not be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights.
How to exercise your rights
Email [email protected] with your request. We’ll respond within 30 days. We may ask you to verify your identity before processing the request. There’s no charge.

- Analytics data: aggregated and retained for up to 14 months in Google Analytics 4.
- Server logs: typically 30–90 days, depending on the provider.
Security
We use industry-standard security measures (HTTPS, access controls, encrypted storage where supported) and rely on reputable service providers to do the same. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your data and the law requires notification, we’ll notify you.
International data transfers
Column 13 is based in the United States. If you’re outside the US and you give us your data, it will be transferred to and processed in the US. For EU/EEA/UK transfers, our service providers rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent mechanisms to safeguard your data.
Children
Column 13 is a publication aimed at marketing operators, executives, and business owners. We don’t knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has shared information with us, email [email protected] and we’ll delete it.
Changes to this policy
We’ll update this policy when our practices change. The “Last updated” date at the top will reflect the most recent revision. Material changes will be flagged in the newsletter and on the homepage.
